What is the role of alcohol in student culture? Is drinking/not drinking always everyone’s own business? Does each “normal” student drink alcohol?
Kulttuurin muuttajat – culture transformers is a campaign by the KUPLA project asking the questions above along with a few others. The aim of the campaign is to create discussion on what the role of alcohol is in student culture. The campaign also wants to remind that each generation of students can effect change on what student culture actually is: what kind of events are being held, what kinds of means are utilized to create a sense of community and what traditions will be kept and what should be changed.
Cultural change stems from the students themselves. If you feel like your student community revolves around alcohol when it comes to social networking and getting to know people, you have to give excuses to why you’re not drinking, drinking creates social pressure or some of the students feel left out because they don’t drink, then change that culture!
Culture is being changed between the 30th of September and the 20th of October 2019. You can find information and support from these webpages to help you enact change in your student community.
